The 2008 Ohio Valley Conference Men's and Women's Basketball Media Day was held at LP Field in Nashville, Tenn., Wednesday, Oct. 8. OVC commissioner Jon Steinbrecher welcomed the head coaches of all 11 OVC schools to speak about their 2008 teams, including recent addition Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
The APSU Lady Govs were voted to finish ninth in the OVC preseason poll with 32 votes. The Lady Govs lost five players after last season and feature only two upperclassmen. Head coach Carrie Daniels spoke about the youth of her team.
"You never know what to expect when you have a roster full of freshmen and sophomores," Daniels said. "I have been encouraged by their work ethic and attitude so far during preseason workouts."
Despite winning both the OVC regular season and tournament championships last season, the Govs were voted to finish third this season behind Murray State and UT Martin. Head coach Dave Loos spoke about his expectations for the team.
"I'm encouraged about our team," Loos said. "We've got six freshmen, but we have also got some solid players coming back."
One of those players, senior forward Drake Reed, was named to the 2008-09 Preseason All-OVC Team.
