The event provided a personal setting where Barnes introduced himself to each person in attendance. Barnes is a local lawyer committed to change and to upholding law. "We need change. We need people who understand that we're a nation of laws, and that we're all equal under the law," Barnes said. He then went on to talk about his hopes for the upcoming election.
Barnes understands there are essentially three types of politicians: Those who are liked, those who are feared and those who are respected. At this "Meet 'n' Greet," Barnes pledged to be the third kind, respected.
Barnes stressed the citizens of District 22, which is made up of Cheatham, Houston and Montgomery Counties need representation that reflects their views and interests. Currently, Barnes feels the current representative, Sen. Rosalind Kurita, is neglecting her constituency. "We unfortunately have a state senator who I do not believe represents the people who put her there," Barnes said.
If elected, he vows to represent the people who put him in office and fully dedicate himself to what he believes is America's greatest asset. "I believe in the individual. I believe in people over property. Our greatest resource is our people," Barnes said.
Several students attended to show their support, including former presidents of APSU's College Democrats DJ Luciano and Frankie De Jesus. Further, Barnes recently garnered the official endorsement from APSU's chapter of the College Democrats at the Montgomery County Democratic Party "Meet 'n' Greet." Current President Adam Haynes announced: "There comes a time that when you have to choose who you want standing beside you, and we stand behind Tim Barnes."
