Forming the Senate and Tribunal
SGA will hold elections for senate and student tribunal committees.
The deadline for student tribunal applications was Sept. 11.
Senate applicants have until Sept. 14 to submit applications.
According to the SGA Web site, senate campaigns will begin Sept. 20, and online polls will be open from Sept. 24 to 26.
R.J. Gossett, vice president of SGA, said too few spots were filled in the senate last year and desired to see SGA encourage more students to apply.
SGA to reach out to students
Plans were mentioned during last Wednesday's meeting to strengthen the connection between SGA and the student body.
Gossett, referring to SGA student feedback, said that students did not find SGA "visible enough".
A Tailgate Alley was mentioned in reference to student feedback, as an initiative to get more senators to spread the word about SGA.
Bryan Huffman, SGA president, said he wanted to look into hosting more tangible events such as guest speakers, and also wanted to make SGA more open to outside ideas.
Homecoming Court in Voting
Applications for homecoming court have been submitted.
A formulating committee, comprised of alumni, staff and students, met Sept. 5 to discuss selection of homecoming votes for the nine homecoming delegates.
Voting began Sept. 10 and ends Sept. 12, according to the SGA Web site. The outcome of student votes will be announced at the Sept. 22 homecoming game.
Campus transit proposal
SGA presented a new approach to reaching out to the campus. Huffman said he spoke with Clarksville Transit Service to set up a trolley system to ease campus transportation.
The proposal includes unlimited transportation for Austin Peay State University students from campus to Fort Campbell, and an estimated $5 to $10 increase in student fees.
The trolley will run between the hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Huffman said he wants to work out a way for APSU students to swipe their student IDs to verify active enrollment at APSU.
The proposed transportation fee would be excluded from the existing SGA fee.
The proposal will go through a referendum for students to vote, then to the Tennessee Board of Regents by spring.
