In a specially called meeting May 18, the TBR presidential advisory search committee unanimously approved Chancellor Manning's recommendation to name Timothy L. Hall, J.D., the new president of Austin Peay State University, effective Aug. 1.

"This is wonderful news," Hall said via phone conference.

Sherry Hoppe, current APSU president, announced her retirement in January 2007.

"I am delighted that Timothy Hall was appointed to follow me as president
of APSU. I am confident he has the ability, the motivation, and the
energy necessary to provide strong leadership to continue the momentum
and set new directions at Austin Peay," Hoppe said.

There were initially 38 applicants for the position.

"[Hall] will be inheriting a highly
capable faculty and staff and a wonderful group of students, as well as
a solid base of community and alumni support, and I offer him my very
best wishes for a long and successful presidency as he works with these
groups on behalf of this very special university," Hoppe said.

Hall will start out making $193,758 annually along with other benefits that go along with being university president.

"I am deeply honored by this appointment … I am anxious to get to work for Austin Peay," Hall said.
